Most grateful for hints and tips gleaned elsewhere from other contributors. In the absence of a proper service manual from Krups we're left to do the best we can with what we can discover and share amongst ourselves. I wish I'd had the following before I tackled my machine - especially when reassembling it - so maybe it'll help yet others avoid some mistakes and frustrations...

Dissassembly

Note: magnetic torx/star screwdrivers (or a small strong magnet to attach) will be found to be very useful, along with long-nose pliers a small flat-blade (electrician’s) screwdriver and a 12mm open-ended spanner (not an exhaustive tool list).

• Remove water tank, waste water tray, small square rear cover, bean hopper, lozenge-shaped cup-warmer plate rubber supports, waste drawer & coffee-clearing-slide;
• Remove the top cover;
• Remove motherboard cover (x1 screw and lift away);
• Detach display panel connector from motherboard (depress plastic catch in back board then carefully slide connector off);
• Release the coffee pipe from the piston/stamp;
• Very carefully remove display panel assembly – this is fixed on 4x small spigots along with hidden locking tabs. Prise the panel assembly off the upper spigots first then gently but firmly manoeuvre the panel assembly off and away from the lower spigots and tabs;
• Detach the test port;
• Fully-lower the slide dispenser assembly on its tracks, when two plastic catch-tabs will be exposed. Slip slim strips of plastic or metal (sheet material) over these and down behind the dispenser assembly so that when raised the assembly can slip past the tabs and be removed. If this proves difficult, the strips can also be passed upward from below;
• Unscrew steam/hot water dispensing pipe from dispensing valve;
• Remove the screws (x5) securing the lower front face panel and lift up and away;
• Remove the screws (x6) securing rear three-sided case to front main case panel, lift and slide backwards and away;
• Release the front main case panel (x2 screws into base) and very carefully lift and pull it forwards whilst also slightly raising the inner cover to separate these two components (held together via two vertical spigots and a central screw-hole lug that can easily break off);
• Record where all connectors fit, then remove from motherboard;
• Remove motherboard and back plate;
• Un-clip grinder wires (x2) then lift and remove inner top cover with grinder in place (or remove grinder first, if required - x2 screws);
• The front rear cable-mounting panel can now be lifted out of the way, though the rear one cannot be released at this stage;
• Detach piston/stamp (x1 screw & washer). Note how the scraper-spring is fitted to its mounting piece in case it becomes detached;

Note: many servicing actions can now be undertaken, though if further access is required please seek guidance elsewhere – e.g. there are many videos for EA series machines available via YouTube.

Re-assembly

After cleaning all components, repairing as necessary and fitting new seals…

• Mount all permanently connected brewing components onto base plate, along with ancillary items as far as possible;
• Add rear wiring-support panel (if removed); ensure correctly seated and tidy wiring as far as possible;
• Add front wiring-support panel; ensure correctly seated and tidy wiring as far as possible;

Note: ensure wiring routes allow sufficient length to reach motherboard without undue tension;

• Fit piston and scraper-spring (ensure mounting arm is central over brewing chamber and nut fully tightened);
• Fit inner cover ensuring it locates fully on stubs;
• Fit grinder into inner cover - feed its wiring through to rear and add rubber sealing ring on top;

Note: the last three steps can be undertaken in any order, though all options are a little fiddly;

• Fit grinder coarseness control swivel post to locate with grinder arm;
• Fit and secure potentiometer (if removed) onto inner cover behind jack (‘helper piston’), along with its trigger cage;
• Fit motherboard and attach all wiring so far available;
• Check all other connectors are correctly attached to their switches and tidy any stray wiring;
• Check all pipes are in place and correctly routed;
• Hook dispensing valve onto front main case panel and make secure (1x small silver screw);
• Attach front main case panel (x2 screws), ensuring it locates with front wiring-support panel (central tab) and fits correctly under the inner cover sockets, with screw-tab in position over central screw-hole on top of inner cover;
• Ensure waste drawer cabinet (if removed) is securely fitted to inside of main case (6 countersunk screws);
• Mount main case and slide forward till locates correctly with, and screw to, front main case panel (6 screws);
• Fit lower front face panel (5 screws);

Note: if you intend to test the machine before completing reassembly (see below), fit only the x4 screws to secure the main case and just the central screw for the lower front panel – this will save some unscrewing if you need to disassemble it again!

• Fit coffee-clearance slide, ensuring it clicks fully into place;
• Fit waste drawer into position;
• Screw dispenser water pipe into dispensing valve and tighten;
• Slide dispenser assembly into its tracks (whilst in lowered position, route coffee pipe through to piston/stamp to ensure sufficient length available on both sides of main front panel and ensure it is correctly fitted via inner cover);
• Attach display connector to motherboard;
• Temporarily lay display panel assembly face-up on top of machine;

Note: At this point, the machine can be tested to ensure correct operation, so fit water-collection tray, fill and install water tank, place cup in position and switch on. If all starts OK, press the ‘Prog’ button and first run the rinsing routine, then dispense a beverage (do not add coffee - beans or ground - as the machine will only require clearing again if it needs to be dismantled once more.)

If all OK…

• Insert any further front panel screws;
• Slide test-port connector into its holder in main front panel (above dispensing valve) and ensure display cable is correctly routed from motherboard;
• Carefully offer-up display panel assembly and click into place on spigots (x4);
• Fit motherboard cover (locate tabs in slots below + x1 screw);
• Fit remaining case components - be sure to fit bean hopper gasket, correctly locate grinder coarseness control knob and fit lozenge-shaped rubber supports for cup-warmer plate.

End.
